US gas consumption rises as price falls

Worcester Telegram -- U.S. gasoline demand increased for the third week in a row as prices at the pump continued to fall, according to MasterCard Inc.

Drivers bought 9.36 million barrels a day in the week that ended May 25, the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, up from 9.09 million the previous week, MasterCard’s SpendingPulse report showed.

The average U.S. pump price fell 4 cents to $3.69 a gallon, the lowest level since Feb. 24. Prices are down 3.4 percent from a year earlier.

“Prices continued to fall which has given consumers a bit of a break at the start of the busy summer driving season,” John Gamel, a gasoline analyst and director of economic analysis for SpendingPulse, said in the report.

At least they function properly as prices fall even though they seem not to do when based only on demand and supply changes. The price does not seem to change properly when demand drops or supply is excessive.

I don't know why this is but it stinks for sure.
