Let's do everything in our power to keep the oil companies from doing their jobs. Let's mandate and regulate them till the price we pay in crazy and our economy will grind to a screeching halt. HOPE AND CHANGE = B.S!

Why is it that when the technology is in use in their own plants in Europe, the domestic refineries would rather spend their money fighting against the upgrades rather than stop making our people ill and dead?

If it is true they need to fix it.
It is strange to me why it is just being talked about now.
We have been in the refining business at the present rate for what, over eighty years, and have just discovered this.
Or is this more liberal, communist propaganda.
I wounder, Hmmmm.

There has to be some way to change our energy use to a good alternative. Conservation keeps your money in your pocket.

If they have better controls on the foreign refineries, why do they need to be told to do it here?

This kind of thing should have been realized long before now and they should be forced to deal with it on a done yesterday basis.

Why should they be allowed to emit these types of chemicals here but not in Europe?

I agree that if they already have the technology to clean up emissions they should be forced to implement that method. What sort of health issues will araise from the new green energy systems of the future? I hope we do not charge ahead without looking at that issue.

I think that any type of less pollution in the atmosphere will help the environment and the people living around these refineriers.

Benzene is nasty stuff. It was probably a contributing factor in my late father's bladder cancer (he was a Professor of Chemistry and was exposed to a lot of it before its carcinogenic properties were known).

Guess we should check out all refineries. My daughter and children live 6 miles from refinery in Wyoming and I have not heard of a heightened occurance of leukemia in the area. HUUUMMMMM!

Such emissions can be curbed and increase production of gas, thus helping to make it cost effective.

Unfortunately, these studies can go which ever way that the funding source wants it to read. If there is a problem, then deal with it, DO NOT PLAY POLITICS! It is so tiring that what ever lobbyists want, the weak minded men and women in government give them, as long as the funding is enough to offset the other lobbyists.

Life causes cancer. However, if there is already a technology to reduce the emission, then they should probably use it.

BHO will do anything to force Americans into tiny cars. He once said he didn't thing $4/gallon gas was that big of a deal...he just thought it got to that price too quickly.

It must be frustrating trying to run a business when the government keeps changing the rules.
Let me guess--when the refineries pass the costs of these new changes onto the consumer, some people will mistakenly blame the oil companies for the higher prices.

At the current rate, Obama will get us off foreign oil. It will be refined elsewhere and be imported as gas. Then we will really be screwed.

Wow, Valero is moving into this part of Pa. now. I have read in the years past the refinerys can do better but they for some reason are reluctatn to spend the money on it. Wouldn't you think as the largest user of their product, they would have the most modern of their refinerys.

Why lower emissions in Europe than in the US? If they can be lowered there they can be lowered here, of course the tax paying citizens will take it in the shorts.
